Helpful hints for maximizing your storage space  

1. Rent the smallest amount of space you need and pack the space full. Think HIGH.

2. Plan your storage space. Place those items that you may need to access often in the front.

3. List contents of boxes on all four sides; number the boxes. Make up an inventory of your stored items and keep it in a safe place at home or safe deposit box.

4. Do not place heavy or sharp objects on top of upholstered furniture.

5. Use a good quality disk lock on your door. Cheap locks rust and do not provide good security

6. Do not store food. Make sure there is no food residue on anything, including fabric, or rodents and insects will be attracted.

7. CAUTION: Do not store anything COMBUSTIBLE (paint thinner, gasoline, solvents, paint, propane, etc.) or HAZARDOUS (insecticides, fertilizer, poisons, household chemicals, etc.)

8. Use uniform size boxes for easy stacking. Be sure your boxes are strong enough to hold 25 lb. to 30 lbs. Use a good quality packing tape to seal the boxes.

9. Dishes and glasses should be wrapped in paper individually and packed in sturdy boxes. Stack lighter boxes on top on heavier boxes.

10. Pictures and mirrors should be wrapped in cardboard, marked "FRAGILE" and stacked on end.

11. Furniture with drawers can be utilized as storage places for pictures, nick-knack’s, china, silverware, small items, etc. Wrap them in tablecloths, towels or blankets to prevent breakage.

12. Larger appliances make excellent "packing cases" for blankets, towels, tablecloths and clothes.

13. Shovels, hoes, rakes and hoses can be stored together in empty trash-cans. Stack extra cans inside each other.

14. Tables having removable legs should be "broken down" to save space.

15. Sofas and love seats can be stored on end to save floor space. Always place a protective cover under the item on the concrete. Cushions should be wrapped in plastic and placed on top.

16. Cover stuffed furniture with cardboard, blankets or plastic to protect against dust.

17. Make sure that all fabrics are dry. Wax all wood Furniture.  Damp items will grow mold and mildew. Also, to protect against airborne mold & mildews do to humidity,  use a chemical dehumidifier product such as Damp-Rid, Dry-Out, Damp-Out, Damp-Gone, De-Moist.

18. If you stand mattresses on their side, "prop" them up so they stand straight. They tend to bend out of shape and become lumpy.

A note about your stored property. You should never store property of an irreplaceable or sentimental nature such as photographs, diplomas certificate, valuable papers. Self Storage building fires, floods and other destruction to the building or units is rare, but it does happen. The Storage Facility insurance only covers the building and not your contents.
